A thirty-eight centimetre oval with a shallow lip, thrown and then gently flattened on the wheel so the oval is a worked shape rather than a mould. Big enough for a whole roast chicken with room around it, a side of fish, or a full spread of flatbread and dips.
This is the heaviest piece in the catalog at just over 1.8 kg and the wall is thickest at the base, which is deliberate — a platter that comes out of a warm oven holds its heat through a long meal. Two hands to carry it when it is loaded.
Because of its size it is the piece most affected by the firing. A large flat form moves in the kiln, and each platter comes out with its own very slight lift at one end. It sits flat, but no two are identical, and that variation is visible if you own more than one.

- Buff iron-speckled stoneware body, satin bone-white glaze, food-safe and lead-free. Fired to 1240°C (cone 6) in an electric kiln.

- Satin matte glaze, pooling darker in the well and breaking to warm sand along the lip. Speckle is heaviest on the large open field of the base. Each platter has a slight individual lift at one end from the firing — it sits flat and stable, but the form is not machine-symmetrical.

- Thrown, glazed and fired in northern Portugal.
Care
- Dishwasher-safe on any normal cycle. Load so pieces do not knock against each other — chips come from contact, not from water.
- Microwave-safe. There is no metal in the body or the glaze.
- Safe in a conventional oven to 180°C, provided the piece goes into a cold oven and heats with it.
- Wash off acidic foods — tomato, citrus, vinegar — within a few hours rather than leaving them to stand overnight.
Cautions
- Not for the freezer, the broiler, or a direct flame. Stoneware fails by thermal shock, and the crack is immediate and total.
- Do not move a piece straight from a hot oven onto a cold or wet surface, or run cold water into a hot dish.
- Cutlery leaves grey metal marks on a satin glaze. They are surface only and lift with a damp cloth and a little bicarbonate of soda.
- The unglazed foot ring is deliberately left raw and is slightly abrasive — lift rather than drag across a polished table.
- Too large for most domestic dishwasher racks — check yours before loading it, and wash by hand if it will not sit clear of the spray arm.
