An open pinch bowl for salt, left unglazed on the outside so the red earthenware stays porous and cool, and glazed inside where it holds the salt. Eight centimetres across and shallow enough to get two fingers into without tipping it.
Unglazed terracotta will darken where it is handled. Oil from fingers soaks into the surface and over a year the rim goes a deeper red than the base. This is the intended behaviour of the material and it cannot be reversed — if you want an object that looks the same in a year, buy the stoneware instead.

- Matte, slightly chalky unglazed exterior in a warm brick red; smooth glazed well. The exterior takes fingerprints and darkens with handling — this is permanent and is the material behaving as intended. Colour varies between pieces with position in the kiln.

- Thrown and fired in northern Portugal.
Care
- Wipe the exterior with a dry cloth only.
- Rinse and dry the glazed well when you change the salt.
- Keep the exterior away from oil and grease — it absorbs and will stain permanently.
Cautions
- Not dishwasher-safe. The porous body absorbs water and detergent and will not fully dry.
- Not for the microwave, oven or freezer. Low-fired earthenware is not vitrified and is far more prone to thermal shock than stoneware.
- Do not soak it. An unglazed body that has taken on water can take days to dry through.
